8. Sep 14,  · Neil spoke several times about “Longfellow Serenade” and I believe what he said about how the song was written and why. Neil claimed his inspiration for “LS” was based on Cyrano deBergerac, a plain-looking poet with a very large nose and his unrequited love for the beautiful Roxane.
